This privacy statement is designed to help you understand how we use and safeguard the personal information you provide to us.  This privacy statement applies to Web site and its related pages. This policy statement explains how we use information we obtain from you. Remember that whenever you give out personal information on the Internet (e-mail), that information can be intercepted in transit. It is our intention to protect the privacy of our young surfers as much as possible, considering the anonymous nature of email and online ordering.

This policy statement provides our visitors (e.g., parents, teachers, librarians, and children) with an overview of the measures we have taken to provide a safe online environment. At our Web site, it’s our policy to create website content that requires minimum collection of information from our visitors.

In general, you may browse our Web sites without providing any personal information.  Our web site may request limited personally identifiable information (e.g. kid’s email address and/or email address of parent or third party), in order to conduct online contests or sweepstakes or offer other online activities (e.g. electronic newsletters). If you want to interact with us via the Web site, you may need to provide us with personal information. For example, you may complete search forms to get information about our products and services. The types of information we ask for varies with the services that you request. In addition to your name and contact information, we may ask for other information if you are making a purchase on the Web site. You may also be asked to provide information in order to receive information on having the author visit your school.

How We Use the Information

In general, we use the information you provide in order to:

•    provide the products and services you’ve purchased
•    provide customer service
•    provide you with additional information that may be of interest
•    send e-newsletters you have requested and to allow us to customize future e-mail and e-newsletter offerings

Unless you tell us not to, we may share your personal information with other members of our company so that we can provide you with marketing and other information. We may also share your information with other third parties who perform services for us, but we forbid these companies from using your personal information for their own purposes. We will not share your information with other third parties for their own purposes without your specific agreement.

For those activities that require personally identifiable information, such as contests and sweepstakes, in compliance with the FTC’s Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, we will not condition a child’s participation in an activity on that child disclosing more personally identifiable information than is reasonably necessary to administer the activity. For certain online activities, we may require verifiable parental consent before collecting or using personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13.  When we seek parents consent, we also give parents the ability to let us know if they do not want any further use made of the personally identifiable information we have collected from their child. Parents can request to review or have deleted their child’s personally identifiable information from our records, and refuse to permit further use of a child’s personally identifiable information by writing to us, as described below in Questions/Concerns.

If your child has received correspondence from us, or if you suspect that we have personal, identifying information about your child, please email us, so that your child’s information can be removed from our database. You may also “opt out” of receiving additional or future e-mails from us at any time by contacting us by e-mail at and requesting removal from our e-mail lists.

Finally, we may also disclose personally identifiable information to third parties in order to comply with law or requests by law enforcement agencies, or to protect the rights, property or safety of our website, users of our website and others.

Ordering from the Site

When customers make purchases through, customers are required to provide their full name, billing and/or shipping addresses, email address, credit card number/expiration date and a phone number. During the checkout process, we use this information to process the customer’s order and to send order confirmations via email. We may also send our customers a print catalog based on the information provided. We do not sell, transfer or share the information with third parties, except when the information is transferred, disclosed and shared with our third party agent, like PayPal, who uses the information solely to handle and manage fulfillment and customer service.


Cookies are information files that your web browser places on the hard drive of your computer when you visit a website. Cookies cannot damage user files, nor can they read information from a user’s hard drive. Cookies allow websites to “remember” users’ activities on a website as well as users visits to a site. At our Web site, cookies are used to determine the number of unique visitors to our website over a given period and to remember user screen names so that the need for multiple log-ins is eliminated. We do not store any personal information into cookies nor do we link or combine information collected through cookies to any personal information that kids submit online when participating in our activities. You can, of course, disable cookies on your computer by indicating this in the preferences or options menus in your browser.

We include “Links” for several categories. We do not take responsibility for any material featured on those sites, and we cannot guarantee the privacy of anyone using these other sites. Visitors leaving our site do so at their own risk.
Visitors will find links from to affiliate, independently owned, controlled and/or managed World Wide Web or Internet sites whose content we have found of possible interest to our visitors. In many cases, but not always, the links represent cooperative projects or mutual links established with the organizations connected with these sites. While we initially visit these sites to which we directly link, please note that we do not monitor or control the content that appears on these sites and such content may be constantly changing. We recommend that children check with their parents or teachers before clicking off to any new sites, and we encourage all end users of our Web sites to read the privacy policies of all linked sites before navigating through them.
